AppRelay questions
Connection, supported devices and release status.
How is the connection protected without a user login?
You do not need a cloud account for the local connection. Your Mac and iPad are paired directly and subsequently recognise each other using their stored cryptographic device identities. Every regular connection uses TLS 1.3 encryption and mutual authentication. Being on the same Wi-Fi or VPN does not by itself grant access.
What protects QR code pairing?
You deliberately start pairing on your Mac and confirm the scanned host on your iPad. The QR code contains a random single-use secret and a cryptographic binding to the host, but no long-term private device keys. It is valid for no more than five minutes and becomes invalid after one use.
Can I share the QR code?
Treat the QR code like a temporary access password. Someone who has a valid code and can reach your host over the network could try to pair their own device. Display it only when setting up a device and do not share photos, screenshots or copied codes. If you accidentally share it, cancel pairing on your Mac and start again with a new code.
What if I lose my iPad?
Revoke the affected iPad in the Mac host device management. Revocation ends an active connection and blocks future connection attempts from that device. Device keys stored on the iPad are protected by Apple Keychain. Also protect both your iPad and Mac with a device lock.
Is this a full remote desktop?
AppRelay focuses on one selected window on your own computer. File transfer and audio are outside the first release scope.
Which devices are supported?
The first version is being prepared for Apple Silicon Macs and iPadOS. Windows, Linux and other clients are planned for later.
